Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been doing photography?

I’ve been using cameras and into photography since 1994, but it wasn’t until 2009 that I decided to take it to the next level.

What kind of camera equipment do you use?

I shoot all Sony equipment, but most of my career was on Nikon. I switched about three years ago and haven’t looked back.

Why do photographers charge so much?

Well, since you asked: some do and some don’t. Here’s the thing: let’s say you’re doing a basic wedding package, for which my minimum is $1500. And lets then figure the average wedding gig is 6 hours, so, pre-wedding images, the ceremony, formal portraits, and then reception. You may be thinking: that’s $250 an hour! But here’s what you’re not thinking about:

  • The meetings before the wedding.

  • Driving to and from (or further travel).

  • Time away from my family.

  • My $20,000 in photography gear.

  • My 30 years of experience.

  • Days and days of editing your photos.

  • My website.

  • My software subscriptions.

  • Etc

So, you’re paying for a lot. They say that people know the cost of everything, but the value of nothing. There’s a little insight into the value you’re getting.

I really like (so and so’s) style. Can you do pictures like them?

No. Go hire them if that’s what you like. Part of what you’re paying me for is my style and vision. Certain poses? Sure. I love when clients have an idea, and I usually ask people to create a Pinterest board of shots they like. But I’m not copying anyone’s photography style.

Do you require a deposit?

I do require at least a 25% deposit one month out from the shoot, and then the balance is due the day of. This is non-negotiable. If the balance is paid on the day of, I don’t shoot. Your deposit is refundable if something comes up. If you cancel your shoot the week of, I do keep 10% of that fee. If I have to cancel on you, I will of course refund the entire amount and do my best to refer you to a colleague that I trust to do a good job.

What kind of turnaround time do you have?

This really varies by job, but weddings are 3-4 weeks. Everything else, I will let you know in advance what to expect.
